About

I’m fascinated by technology. I always have been. Growing up, I was the annoying little guy who had to be the one to push the button in the elevator to select the destination floor. And, perhaps, select more than one! It seemed pretty much a given that I’d end up in some kind of engineering field. And in 2004, I completed my Computer Engineering degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

After working in Johannesburg for a year at an international IT consulting firm, the entrepreneurship bug bit and, following a brief stint in beautiful Stellenbosch, I joined up with some amazing people to form what is now Clyral.

Growing up, and mostly through the work of my parents at various NGOs, I was made acutely aware of the challenges which face our country –and indeed much of the developing world. I can’t claim to be a crusader for the resolution of these challenges – but I have enormous respect and admiration for those who are. My hope however is that I can combine my passion for technology and business, and through collaboration with others, create software with a social conscience. Our projects such as Mobile Researcher and Mobenzi which are commercial but socially oriented ventures are the first of what will hopefully be many similar initiatives.

It’s a work in progress.
